Wax+Paper $250 (Material fee $40 )
Waxed Paper Workshop presents the student an overview of basic papermaking and encaustic techniques as they apply to handmade paper as a support. We will spend the first day of the workshop as a paper maker discovering ways that paper can be wrapped, glued, pulped, and pulp painted. The secondmorning continues in the papermaking studio with students working sculpturally with high shrinkage paper and found forms for casting pulp.
In the afternoon the wax will heat up as we apply various encaustic processes to these paper supports, including waxglazes, dry brush accretions, layering and scraping. On the third day students will explore a variety of mixed media applications to wax including transfer, collage, pouring, embedding, foil and gold leaf. Throughout the workshop students will see demonstrations in bothpaper and encaustic technique and have ample time for guided exploration on their own with the ability to create several completed works. No experience in either papermaking or encaustic painting is required although the experienced papermaker or encaustic artist will find something new and challenging in experimenting with this dual media.
