Johanna Gardner

Johanna Gardner studied for a BFA at Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle, WA. She spent her childhood and adolescence on two continents-- Europe and Asia-- before moving to America. She began painting with wax in 2002 because the texture and color of the medium spoke best to her abstract landscapes. Johanna is currently the VP of IEA San Antonio Chapter, is the Communications chair of encaustiCon 2012 and is a faculty member of Inspire Fine Arts Center.

Sat 8th, 1:15-2:30 The Iron as a Paintbrush
Johanna Gardner has been using an ordinary household iron as her primary painting and fusing tool for ten years. This demonstration will show you how to use an iron as an extension of your hand to mix and apply encaustic paint allowing for immediacy that a regular paint brush, torch and/or heat gun cannot achieve.
